Our goal

Shield Recovery Inc. wants people with disabilities to be able to use this website. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We have not had an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim full conformance; we describe below what we have done and where we know we fall short.

What we have done

  • Pages use headings in order, landmarks and descriptive link text, so screen readers can move around them.
  • Form fields have visible labels, errors are announced and tied to the field they concern, and the first field with a problem receives focus.
  • Everything on the website can be used with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus indicator, and a skip link takes you past the navigation.
  • We check text and controls against the WCAG colour-contrast and minimum target-size requirements as part of every release.
  • The site is built to work at phone and desktop widths and when you enlarge the text. It respects your device's "reduce motion" setting.
  • Images have text alternatives. The coverage map has the same information in a text table.

Known limitations

  • The Spot the Unit game is a visual, timed game. It depends on sight and on pointing or touching, so it is not usable by everyone. It is entertainment, not a way to get any information or service. Everything else is available from this website or by phone.
  • The county map is a picture; use the county list and the ZIP code check on the coverage page for the same information.
  • We have tested with automated checks and by hand, but not with a full range of screen readers and other assistive technology.
